Two young men are talked into a plan by a cunning rogue to blow up the largest smokestack in the world, as an antipollution protest. Due to lack of funds, they have to travel "by thumb power," encountering hair-raising experiences on the highway. The action leads from Chicago to Atlanta, and after reaching their final destination, the trio is diverted by Atlanta's foremost go-go-girl and get into a last-minute race with time and three boxes of dynamite.
