Uzhhorod is a city in western Ukraine. Medieval Uzhhorod Castle is home to the Museum of Regional History, with artifacts from the 14th–20th centuries including coins and weapons. The open-air Museum of Folk Architecture and Life features reconstructed traditional buildings with folk art. The turreted Catholic Church of St. George dates from the 17th century. To the west, Bozdos'kyi Park has children's play areas.
Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is bisected by the River Danube. Its 19th-century Chain Bridge connects the hilly Buda district with flat Pest. A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda’s Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces city life from Roman times onward. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church and the turrets of the Fishermen’s Bastion, which offer sweeping views.
The Last Days (1998)
In late 1944, even as they faced imminent defeat, the Nazis expended enormous resources to kill or deport over 425,000 Jews during the "cleansing" of Hungary. This Oscar-winning documentary, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, focuses on the plight of five Hungarian Jews who survived imprisonment in Auschwitz.
