Key players in the investigation of many crimes, but most importantly homicides, are the technicians. In this day and age, mobile laboratories are brought to the crime scene to do on-the-spot analysis of the scene and evidence. More specialized technicians do further detailed analysis of evidence at the main laboratory back at the police station. The specific specialists depend on the evidence gathered and the nature of the analysis required. This work often leads to further investigation by detectives to follow-up on what the specialists have discovered in the lab. This work also often leads to the capture of the culprit, but the work must also be supported by corroborating evidence, the most strong being eyewitness accounts, as to stand up in a court of law.
