The Witch of the Everglades (1911)
White Cloud, the war chief of the Seminoles of the Everglades, in the beginning of the last century, starts a war on the "whites," for the brutal and unprovoked murder of his brother. The first victim, Seth Thomas, a young settler, is killed, and Dora, his wife, becomes insane as she discovers the death of her husband and the loss of her two-year-old baby, carried away by the squaw of White Cloud. Dora has been left for dead by the Indians. Fifteen years elapse and Dora has been haunted by one idea, to kill every Seminole she could. She is called the "Witch of the Everglades," and is an object of superstitious terror to the Indians. Nellie, her baby girl, has been brought up by White Cloud, and is seventeen, when she saves Lieutenant Hardy of the regulars, who has been captured by the Indians. They fall in love and are rescued by a relief party of soldiers, who are led to the camp by Dora. She is wounded in the head, and the bullet restores her to reason, removing the pressure from the brain. Taken to the fort at Pensacola, she recognizes Nellie as her baby girl by the locket around her neck. White Cloud is seen standing at the finish of the story, looking off towards the land he has lost forever.
