Arvida is a settlement of 12,000 people in Quebec, Canada, that is part of the City of Saguenay. Its name is derived from the name of its founder, Arthur Vining Davis, president of the Alcoa aluminum company. Arvida was founded as an industrial city by Alcoa in 1927, when the first aluminum smelter was constructed.

The borough of Chicoutimi contains Saguenay’s central district, with shops, casual pizza and poutine spots, and the Zone Portuaire, a riverside park that hosts festivals and concerts. Farther out, the Parc de la Rivière-du-Moulin has hiking and cross-country skiing trails. La Pulperie de Chicoutimi museum highlights regional culture, and Le Musée de la Petite Maison Blanche has exhibits on a devastating 1996 flood.

The area’s emerging dining scene includes French bistros, relaxed brewpubs, and cozy cafes, while the Casino du Lac-Leamy features upscale restaurants, live entertainment, and gaming. Bridges with pedestrian and cycling paths cross the river to Ottawa.
