Newcastle upon Tyne, or simply Newcastle, is a city and metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear, England. It is England's northernmost metropolitan borough, located on the River Tyne's northern bank opposite Gateshead to the south. It is the most populous settlement in the Tyneside conurbation and North East England.

Also known as the University Quarter, busy Haymarket is the site of the city’s main student campuses, sprawled around the Gothic Revival-style St. Thomas’ Church and the manicured lawns of the Civic Centre. The Hatton Gallery is filled with classic and modern art, while the Great North Museum: Hancock has natural history exhibits and sections of Hadrian’s Wall. Mainstream shops line pedestrian Northumberland Street.

Durham is a city in northeast England, south of Newcastle upon Tyne. The River Wear loops around the Romanesque Durham Cathedral and Norman Durham Castle. North of the castle, 13th-century, medieval Crook Hall is home to gardens and a maze. South of the river, Durham University offers a Botanic Garden with woodland and tropical plants, and the Oriental Museum exhibiting Asian, Egyptian and Middle Eastern artefacts.

Tynemouth is a coastal town in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside, in Tyne and Wear, England. It is located on the north side of the mouth of the River Tyne, hence its name. It is 8 mi east-northeast of Newcastle upon Tyne.
