Sombrerete is a town and municipality located in the northwest of the Mexican state of Zacatecas, bordering the state of Durango. It was founded in 1555 by Spanish conquistador Juan de Tolosa as a mining center, due to the wealth that the mines provided, Sombrerete was one of the most important towns in New Spain.

Zacatecas is a city in central Mexico. It's known for being a 16th-century silver mining hub. An underground train leads to the Mina El Edén, a former mine with rock formations and antique mining machinery. The mine’s prosperity is reflected in the city’s ornate churches and colonial buildings, like the Catedral de Zacatecas and the Palacio de Gobierno Estatal, built with pink stone and ornamental wrought iron.

Durango is the capital city of the state of Durango, in Mexico. It’s known for its historic center, with important colonial and Mexican baroque buildings. Begun in 1695, the ornate Cathedral Basilica has sacred art and carved wooden interiors. Exhibits trace the city’s history at Museo de la Ciudad 450, in a converted palace. Bebeleche is a modern museum with interactive displays on science and culture.

Plot summary

In the 1860s Wild West, a ragged bunch of misfit settlers decides they cannot stand living in their current situation and they hire a grizzled cowboy to take them on a journey back East to their hometowns.
