Its Gilded Age sites, including the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, speak to its history as an early-20th-century industrial capital. In the North Shore neighborhood are the modern Andy Warhol Museum, Heinz Field football stadium and PNC Park baseball stadium.

Kansas City sits on Missouri's western edge, straddling the border with Kansas. It's known for its barbecue, jazz heritage and fountains. Downtown, the American Jazz Museum shares a building with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in the historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, with giant shuttlecocks out front, houses nearly 40,000 works of art, from ancient to contemporary collections.

Stamford is a Connecticut city on Long Island Sound. North of downtown, Stamford Museum & Nature Center has exhibits on natural and cultural history, in a 1929 mansion. Its grounds include an educational farm, an otter pond and an observatory. Cove Island Park is a bird habitat, with beaches, wetlands and trails. Cummings Park has a beach and boardwalk.
