Okinawa is a Japanese prefecture comprising more than 150 islands in the East China Sea between Taiwan and Japan's mainland. It's known for its tropical climate, broad beaches and coral reefs, as well as World War II sites. On the largest island (also named Okinawa) is Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum, commemorating a massive 1945 Allied invasion, and Churaumi Aquarium, home to whale sharks and manta rays.

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a modern metropolis with Japanese colonial lanes, busy shopping streets and contemporary buildings. The skyline is crowned by the 509m-tall, bamboo-shaped Taipei 101 skyscraper, with upscale shops at the base and a rapid elevator to an observatory near the top. Taipei is also known for its lively street-food scene and many night markets, including expansive Shilin market.

As her name suggests, Sunshine (Ranie Yang), is a delightful girl, who lives with her self-sacrificing, adoring grandmother. Regrettably, her very irresponsible con-artist parents have left her under the weight of extreme debt. When the debtors come calling, Sunshine must accept work as a maid for a rich family. Before reporting for work, Sunshine has a rather embarrassing chance encounter with the CEO of a cosmetics company, Di Ya Xin (Wu Chun). Immediately, their indifference for one another is apparent and they hope to never see each other again. As fate would have it, however, Sunshine ends up working as Di Ya Xin's maid.
