Plot summary

The events take place at the beginning of the last century, when the revolution had already occurred in Russia, and in bourgeois Latvia it was just beginning. The members of the simple peasant family of the Zithars had a difficult choice: to go with the revolutionaries or to come to terms with the orders of the bourgeois republic.
